Although much of this presidency has been shrouded by divisiveness and negative headlines, America is not completely suffering under the Trump administration. In fact, sectors such as the economy and the judicial system saw marked progress in the last year, reflecting that the president is more than just brash comments. Fortunately, for all the disillusioned, pessimistic readers, there is a lighter note.
Currently, the economy is flourishing on all fronts. One of the most important aspects of the economy to look at is the unemployment rate. Under President Trump, the unemployment rate has sunk to 4.1 percent, a 17-year low. From an economic perspective, the U.S. labor market is “at or close to so-called full employment after 81 consecutive months of growth”, says BBC News, meaning that all the country’s labor resources are being used in the most efficient manner. With so much employment, people theoretically have the income to help grow the economy, as they have the power to purchase goods, invest in the stock market, and more. With growing retail sales and stock markets at impressive highs, theory has come to fruition in America. As the legalization of marijuana continues to spread and new markets are explored, the economy will continue on its positive trend. Therefore, despite waves of negative publicity, the U.S. economy expands and flourishes, reflecting optimism in the country’s future.
Furthermore, Trump has proven successful in making judiciary appointments. Even a Democratic official, Ron Klain, commended the president for his success. He wrote, “A massive transformation is underway in how our fundamental rights are defined by the federal judiciary. For while President Trump is incompetent at countless aspects of his job, he is proving wildly successful in one respect: naming youthful conservative nominees to the federal bench in record-setting numbers.” Although judicial appointments may seem unimportant or small, they are significant decisions that alter the legal landscape of America for decades. Thankfully, these decisions have been made successfully. Qualified conservatives are receiving positions, leaving the U.S. in good shape for years to come.
Even though many want just to focus on the dark side of the presidency, it is important to see some of the benefits of the Trump presidency. Quite comically, progress is being made behind the bad headlines, as Trump would say. Not only is the legal system in good hands, but people are making money. Isn’t that enough reason to be happy?
