Nintendo has announced that the physical release of the upcoming Rockstar game LA Noire will cost $49.99 – about $10 higher than the price for the physical release of the PS4 and Xbox One releases. As the UK Express reports, the heightened price is the result of the added cost of producing games on the Switch’s proprietary game cards.
Historically, digital and physical releases on Nintendo’s flagship console have been priced exactly the same, but the recent announcement may indicate a permanent shift in pricing behaviors from publishers, who seek to pass on added costs of physical production to the consumer.
LA Noire is currently scheduled to release on November 14th, and Rockstar has stated that the added cost for Nintendo users will be made up for through the addition of extra content, such as a signature control scheme that will be exclusive to the console. The game will ship “With specific enhancement including a Joy-Con mode with gyroscopic, gesture-based controls, HD rumble and new wide and over-the-shoulder camera angles, plus contextual touch screen controls for portable detective work.”
